Our XC team always (well, usualy) has a short and easier practice the day before a race. Here's what we do:
-Either .5 - 1.5 mile warm up or a 15-20 minute warm up
-Meet at a field behind the middle school (there's a field there)
-Stretch
-Get in a singlefile line roughly 10 feet in front of coach
-and run up to coach to hear what we are: either a Lion or a Gazelle
What is Lions and Gazelles?
*It's basicaly sharks and minnows, only running.
*The coach will secretly tell us wether we are a lion or a gazelle.
*If we are a lion (there are only 1-3 lions at the beginning) we try to tag the others (cue gazelles).
*We set up boundries (usualy the edge of the field, depending on where we are) and the coach will blow the whistle and we start.
*If a gazelle gets tagged, they become a lion.
*The coach will occasionaly blow the whistle throughout the game and the lions will take a knee, while the remaining gazelles remain standing.
*Jogging, running, and sprinting are allower, no walking.
*The winner is the last one standing. That person will go on and become the first lion for the next game. However, we don't usualy do that, we randomly change it up. But usualy we pick a faster person to start off being the lion (vasrity seniors, for example).
-It's really fun, and we'll play a few rounds, then we'll do the same thing for cool down as we did for warm up. And then meet whereever whenever the next day for the meet. (unles we're staying overnight at the school because of a far meet, or if we're in a hotel).
