Minutes before the race, our team will do what we call pick ups. these are just a series of high-kicking 'dashes' for about 50 meters from the starting line, then pause, then turn around and go back. We do them to loosen up and get the blood flowing. No one likes them, and they feel like they're hurting our ability, but they are important.
after we do a few of those, we all group togeather and recite the Lord's Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. [For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.]
then we give our team spirit shout and go back to the starrting line. we were the only people that did this, but it caught on fast and now it seems that everyone is doing this (pick ups, not the prayer that we do).
this gets us pumped and ready to go. We hit the line, and moments later, we are off to another victory.
