Breathing is very important. We wouldn't be here if we couldn't breathe. So, i was just curious on people's patterns and ratios of breathing (meaning, for example, during a hard run, yet not quite race pace, i'll be breathing in every 2 steps and out every 2 steps.)

Ya breathing isnt usually a problem for me, its my ears they hurt so much after I run long distance...

yeah. especaily in the cold! i hate that.
also, breathing with a tempo is important.
and i'm not accusing, but i've heard that breathing in through your nose and out your mouth is good. this is NOT true. when you breathe, you're taking in the much needed oxygen. breathing through your mouth is the fastest way to acheive this goal.
