Getting up to the top of the hill... probably one of the worst parts of the race. So what tips (that actualy work) can i listen to to help me get there?
(trust me, i do this all the time and this works)
Using your arms: Swinging them is very important. Especaily on hills. Keeping them parallel to your body (practice, because it won't just happen, you have to think about it and get used to it) and alligned with your leg motions / degrees / angle facing towards the direction you are going is how you get up the hill.
What did he just say?
Well, when your arms are swinging, you are shooting lots of kenetic energy in the form of momentum. This momentum can be used to your advantage, if you would like it. By swinging your arms in the direction of where you're going, you can send that energy to your speed and therefore slide up the hill with more ease.
Try it: go to a hill and run up it. Time yourself. Then go back to the bottom and use your arms, more aggressivly than you'd think. Focus on a steady object towards the top of the hill (a tree, mail box, etc.) and avoid looking down. See your results.
If you keep this method up to use in practice, you will soon get used to it and be seeing faster times durring races. Just remember:
-Look ahead at a steay object and focus on it.
-Keep your arms moving in the direction ahead of you. Move them with more energy than you'd think would be necessary.
-Dont make a fist or any unnatural position with your hands> this is using the precious energy. Just keep them relaxed and in their natural position and run.
-see your results.
